Taking Care of Your Feet
1. Boots
-
Wear boots that are appropriate for the trail. For our trip, a lightweight
boot is acceptable.
-
Break in new hiking boots before setting foot on the trail.
-
Use boots that allow your feet to breathe.
-
Shake out your boots before putting them on. A scorpion sting can be
very painful!
2. Socks
-
Wear two pairs of socks. The inner pair should be polypropylene while
the outer pair should be wool. The polypropylene socks will wick the moisture
away from your feet while the wool will absorb it.
-
Change socks half way through the trail to help prevent blisters caused
by excessive moisture
3. Feet
-
Toughen up your feet before the trip by walking barefoot on concrete
-
Watch your step so that you can avoid the chance of a sprained ankle.
A severe sprain could result in you being temporarily disabled.
-
If you get a blister do not pop it unless absolutely necessary
-
Wash your feet at the end of the day's hike
-
Use moleskin to prevent or treat blisters
